Dentoskeletal effects of class II malocclusion treatment with the modified Twin Block appliance

2019

Background The purpose of this study was to prospectively assess the dentoskeletal effect of a modified Twin Block appliance for treatment of class II malocclusions. Material and Methods Lateral cephalograms of 25 Class II malocclusion patients were compared to evaluate skeletal, dentoalveolar and soft tissue changes pre- and post-treatment with a modified Twin Block appliance. A total of 33 angular and linear variables were used for analysis. The differences were calculated at the start and end of treatment. The paired T test was performed to compare the cephalometric measurements before and after treatment. Results Compared the pre- and post- treatment measurements, there was a significan…

The influence of crossbite in early development of mandibular bone asymmetries in paediatric patients

2017

BACKGROUND All authors agree that posterior crossbite is a malocclusion that affects mandibular growth and may lead to skeletal asymmetry but there are few data on which age these modifications are easily quantifiable. MATERIAL AND METHODS For this study, the researchers used x-ray records of 217 children between 6 and 9 years of age, in the mixed dentition stage and with unilateral posterior crossbite. All the horizontal variables were traced and evaluated by the principal researcher, using the tpsDig version 2 computer program. Subsequently, a descriptive and statistical analysis was carried out, using the SPSS 17.0 for Windows program. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION After analysing the vertical …

Study of mandibular growth in patients treated with Frankel s functional regulator (1b)

2012

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess mandibular growth in patients with Class II division 1 malocclusions when treated with Fränkel´s functional regulator 1b. Study Design: The treatment group was made up of 43 patients that were divided into two groups: prepubescent (n:28), and pubescent (n:15). The control group included 40 patients who did not receive any kind of treatment and were likewise divided into a prepubescent group (n:19), and a pubescent group (n:21). A computerized cephalometric study was carried out and superimpositions were done in order to assess the antero-posterior, vertical and rotational movements of the mandible. A two-way ANOVA with interaction was done…
